About Read For Speed

An independent information and analysis service built around the clock, not the headlines.

Founder, Read For Speed

Why Read For Speed was created

Read For Speed was created by Kevin Clements after years of studying race times and comparing performances across British flat racing. Racing publishes an enormous amount of timing information every day, but very little of it is presented in a way an ordinary racing fan can actually use.

The aim is simple: turn complex timing information into clear, practical race analysis. Each performance is reduced to a single figure on a 0–100 scale so that runs from different races, courses and conditions can be compared side by side.

Recording the figures

Read For Speed grew out of the routine of watching races, recording times and revisiting them afterwards to see which performances genuinely stood up. That habit of keeping records is still the backbone of the service today.

A focus on British flat racing

Read For Speed covers British flat racing only, across both turf and all-weather. Turf and all-weather performances are assessed separately, because a strong figure on one surface is not automatically as relevant on the other.

Honesty and transparent records

Every official Read For Speed selection will be recorded — winners and losers alike — to consistent stakes, with clear profit-and-loss figures. Members should be able to judge the service on genuine evidence rather than on selected highlights.

Independent, and not a bookmaker

Read For Speed is an independent information and analysis service. It does not accept bets, it is not a bookmaker, and it does not promise profits. The ratings are designed to support your judgement, not to promise winners.

18+ | Betting involves risk. Never stake more than you can afford to lose. Ratings are one input alongside going, draw, pace, distance, class, current form and the price available.
